Reivew of How to Marry a Marble Marquis by CM Nascosta

***This review may contain some SPOILERS***

I saw this advertised a while ago and HAD to add it to my TBR seeing as it mixes two of my favourite genres. Paranormal romance and Historical romance.

I want to start by saying I enjoyed the author's writing style, it flowed beautifully and was very well written. I did spot a typo or two, but in all honesty, there are very few books that I don't. It did not subtract from the plot or the writing for me.

I loved the banter between the FMC and MMC. They worked well as a pair.

“How am I supposed to live in the daytime world, Silas? Things are so much prettier at night.”

Unfortunately, I was a little disappointed.

For me, the book was less of a romance plot and more along the lines of an erotic novel.

I'm all for spice and explicit scenes in my books, and though the scenes were written quite well, I found that the frequency of them subtracted from the storyline. Take away all the sex and there is very little story left. Even in the letters to his brother.

I quite liked the 'teach the heroine how to be good at sex' trope. It's not one I've read much of, but I thought that worked well and I could see the story progressing. I didn't mind the first visit to the brothel after the FMC and MMC had sex for the first time. It worked with the character's personality and the story, showing how he could no longer enjoy another woman. I did not like that it continued to happen. Though they weren't an item as such, it felt too much like cheating and is something I am not fond of in books.

Overall, I quite enjoyed the premise and as I mentioned, the author writes wonderfully, it just wasn't to my taste.
